First Semester Writing Standards Portfolio

Hi Mom and Dad,
Welcome to my Writing Standards Portfolio! Throughout my portfolio I will be reflecting on my assignments from the first and second quarter. As a sophomore I've learned a lot about myself while writing essays such as the College Prompt and Coming of Age. Although the other writing assignments such as the Risky Business and Angry Letter didn't require me to do as much personal reflection as did the first two essays I mentioned, I learned how important word choice, research, and voice comes into play when writing an effective letter, argumentative paper, or mini essay.

At the ending of freshman year my short term goal was to continue to work hard and to improve my time-management skills; two skills in which I am still trying to build upon. For example, it was easy for me to try my best when writing the College Prompt and Coming of Age essays because I could easily relate to the topic through my own experiences, which makes it something more meaningful for me. However, I had a harder time and tried less when writing about divorce for Risky Business and a complaint for Angry Letter. I can also plan out and prioritize better so that I have enough time to complete my assignments with quality and turn them in on time.

Hope you enjoy :)

  1. My favorite piece of writing that you wrote this semester was the Coming of Age Essay because you were able to reflect on how you were in the past. You need to improve on meeting deadlines and taking responsibility and leadership roles when working in groups. Your voice is strong in all your essays but you need to work on the ideas trait because some essays and writing assignments seem scatter brained.
