Merchant of Venice pre-reading work

Don’t rely on outward appearances when making judgments.
Agree:
-I agree with this statement because a person's physical features should not determine their character; it's whats on the inside that really matters. Someone may look a certain way but you should not jump to conclusions and start assuming certain things. Therefore, outward appearances should not affect your judgment towards a person. One day in elementary school there was  a new kid in class and he looked really mean and scary; so I avoided him. During recess, he was alone and when he tried to make friends people would run away from him. I felt really bad so I went up to him and he was actually really nice.
Justice is always blind.
Disagree:
-I disagree with this statement because there is some fairness in every situation. Although it may seem like life is unfair, I think we are challenged with these difficulties to better ourselves and build strong characters. Therefore, I think that the amount of justice in certain situations is controlled by how we react towards the issue. As the oldest of all my siblings, justice is something rare. However, I take my experiences as opportunities to learn and become more responsible.

A brotherly love between two friends can be just as strong as an intimate love between a man and a woman.
Agree:
-I agree with this statement because a friendship is not that much different from a relationship. I think that if two friends have a strong bond towards each other than that is equivalent if not stronger that an intimate love between a guy and a girl. Therefore, I agree with this statement.

You can break a promise as long as you have a good excuse.
Disagree:
-I disagree with this statement because if you make a promise to someone you should keep to that promise no matter what. A promise is defined as an assurance that you will do a particular thing or guarantee a certain thing WILL happen. If you break a promise, what was the point of making one to begin with. In sixth grade, my best friend and I promised each other  that we would stay close friends no matter what happened when we moved onto middle school. Well was that a big lie, on the first day of school she completely shut me out and acted like a totally different person.

Love is blind.
Agree:
-I agree with this statement because sometimes you feel like you belong with a certain person but stuff happens and you realize that it's just not meant to be. In addition, sometimes it's hard to let go of that one person so you make life hard on yourself by avoiding that person which just makes the situation more difficult. Therefore, love is blind. On one episode of Austin and Ally, A&A finally go out but they realize how awkward their relationship is so they call it quits which doesn't work out well either.

Stereotypes are often right.
Agree:
-I agree with this statement because most times, stereotypes provide descriptions that are on point. Although it's not right to judge a person before you get to know them, stereotypes serve as a guideline as to how a person may or may not act. Therefore, stereotypes are right MOST of the time. Old people are though of as grumpy and for the most part this is true. My grandparents have friends that are really mean and temperamental.

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is a good motto to live by.
Disagree:
-I disagree with this statement because if you give someone something, you shouldn't expect something back in return. I think that you should do things out of the goodness of your ♡ rather that doing it for the rewards and benefits. Therefore, this motto is not a good motto to live by. When I was little, I would go out with my parents on Christmas Eve and deliver Christmas presents to family and friends. At one house, I delivered the presents and I waited expecting that the lady would give me a present in return. But she didn't so I got really mad.

Questions
1) Many times I have been sad there was a reason to it. But come to think of it sometimes I have been sad for no reason or I just didn't know why. Some days when I wake up I just automatically feel sad or depressed. But most sadness comes with a reason.

2) In today's society, the economy is gradually worsening. Many people struggle to find jobs and support their family through this rough time. Everyone is struggling to get money which is essential to being successful in this century. Therefore, when people donate money to others it's considered moral and generous because money if of greater value in our time than during Shakespeare's time.

3) I think that it may not be the smarts idea to lend someone large amounts of money during hard times. You never know if that person will ever pay you back with just their word. If that person is a family member or a close friend then it wouldn't be as bad lending them money.

4) We think these elements will blend well together because the contrasting themes of romance and religion and race will set the stage for drama and interesting scenes in the book. These elements will provide the reader with relatable issues in every relationship or friendship.
